After winning Super Bowl 59 with an all-star roster and an extremely youthful and talented team, the eagles are expected to become the first team ever to three-peat. Optimism for these reigning champs should typically be high. However, losing many star players, as well as recent game results, have shown that this young, dynasty-like team has begun crashing down.

With a rocky opening game, squeezing past the Cowboys, they stumbled to a 4-0 start, even pulling off an epic 17-point comeback in the 4th quarter against the Rams. Nevertheless, many fans question how they were down by that much to begin with, and a near comeback from the Buccaneers definitely didn’t help their case. Slowly but surely, with a pair of losses to statistically mediocre teams (Broncos and Giants), the Eagles had somehow limped to a 4-2 record.

Fast forward to the present, although they are sitting quite comfortably in the playoff picture at 7-2, many of those wins seemed questionable, almost lucky, at best. As previously mentioned, they squeaked out a win against Baker and the Bucs, as well as a pair of one-score differential wins against the Vikings (28-22) and Packers (10-7). Although they avenged themselves against the Giants with a decent whooping (38-20), this was an expected result from a Super Bowl contender.

Here we have an interview with an avid Eagles fan Lucas Li ‘29. When asked how he felt about the Eagles’ two straight losses, he explained that he was concerned about the team. He also explains how he often revolves his life around their statistics and success, even resorting to delusion. He says the fall from the Super Bowl Champions to a mediocre team is something that keeps him, along with many others, up at night, wondering how this had even happened. .

However, fans shouldn’t be too discouraged just yet. It is anyone’s game and the Eagles could still make it to the playoffs. Additionally, they are the expected division leader, as they have a mediocre Cowboys team mixed in with the Giants and Commanders, both probably only looking ahead to next season for new talent and healthy players.

One more thing to watch out for is the NFL playoffs. Eagle fans should be a little concerned, as the teams in playoff contention are extremely tough. When facing playoff teams like the Packers, whom they had barely beaten (10-7), in one of the most disappointing prime-time games this year, they have struggled to find any offense, meaning their defense had to carry. We saw this same thing happen to the 2024 Chiefs as their defense was one of the best in the NFL, but their offense was barely holding on. Everything to them was fine until they reached the Super Bowl, and their offense couldn’t keep up with the Eagles’, who still scored 40 points even after the Eagles benched their best players halfway through the game. The Chiefs were embarrassed on live TV, and many Eagles fans are worried the same thing is happening to the Eagles’ team this year.

Last year, the Eagles started 0-2, but they bounced back to win the Super Bowl. The current Eagles team is still a team capable of winning the Super Bowl. They have stars at every position, and they even traded Jalen Philips during the trade deadline to help improve their defense. Since then, the Eagles haven’t lost a game. So if you are an Eagles fan, remember that your team is still one of the best out there, and there is no reason to give up yet. Despite everything that happened, they still have one of the best odds to win the Super Bowl and the number one seed spot in the NFC.
