Summary:
It’s What’s Inside is a suspenseful thriller with a sci-fi twist released on Netflix in 2024. The movie starts with a group of old college friends coming together to celebrate the to-be marriage of one of their friends in a mansion. However, when one of their friends who nobody has seen for years comes to the party, the celebration takes an unexpected turn. When he arrives, he brings a briefcase that allows users to move their minds into each other’s bodies. What is at first presented as a party game escalates into something much more sinister.
Pros and Cons:
The artistic style and cinematography allowed you to become immersed in the world as if you were one of the actors. In addition, the actors did a great job of changing personalities to become different characters when necessary, and the twist towards the end was very unexpected. Also, the overall idea of mind swap was very interesting to see play out, but I don’t think that the execution of the film was as good as it could have been as the motives weren’t completely justified for some characters and I felt like the rivalry between two of the characters could have been further highlighted over the scandalous relationships that didn’t make sense. In addition, the camera movement was sometimes too jarring, and the explanations were too fast-paced, and often made me have to rewind to fully grasp what occurred. Finally, I didn’t feel like the ending was too far and not completely justified. Ultimately, I believe that if the directors had decided to make It’s What’s Inside into a TV Series instead of a movie, it would have made the film a lot more interesting as the writers would have had a lot more time to explain the backstories as well as fully capture the sense of nostalgia that was missing.
My Rating:
Overall, I would rate this film a 6.5 out of 10 because the film felt too fast-paced, and thus, the storyline was difficult to understand. I also could have wished to see more malicious intent/murder to fully illuminate the unspoken rivalry between some of the characters. However the cinematography was incredible, and the actors did a great job with their roles. I would recommend this movie to anyone willing to sacrifice a little bit of storyline for amazing camera shots and a lot of small foreshadowing.
